After Midnight

Podcast series exploring how Creatives use their arts practice to express their mental health lived experience.

“After Midnight” is a series of 12 podcast episodes that will focus on conversations about creative responses to challenging life circumstances.  We will explore how music, visual arts, writing, performing and crafts, impact those that have a lived experience of mental health including the possibility of suicide.


EXPRESSION OF INTEREST

  • Are you a person that considers yourself an Arts Practitioner – from any art form?  
  • Art forms include: music, dance, theatre, writing, visual arts, photography, performance, poetry, etc. 
  • Do you have a lived experience of mental health challenges and/or thoughts of suicide?
  • Are you prepared to talk about your challenges and how your arts practice supports your wellbeing?  

We understand that many people struggle with maintaining their mental wellbeing.  In this instance, we are looking for people who have had a diagnosed mental health and/or survived a non-fatal attempt of suicide. 

Arts Nexus Studio has been commissioned by the NQ Primary Health Network to produce 12 podcast episodes, exploring this theme.  We invite you to provide us with your expression of interest in being involved in this project.  This podcast series will be hosted by experienced arts practitioners and you will be supported to find and/or amplify your voice and have the confidence to share your story. 

A committee of people that have some level of lived experience with mental health and/or thoughts of suicide, is a practitioner, Carer or family, that will select twelve people based on the following criteria:-

SELECTION CRITERIA – a practicing artist means:-

  • That you have given significant time to developing your arts practice
  • You are recognised as a creative by your peers and/or community
  • You have presented creative work publicly or published
  • You have progressed skills either through self-taught or study methods
  • You use arts to express your unique point of view and that your arts practice provides you with a creative expression about your lived experience
  • This includes serious hobbyists, amateurs and professionals. 

WE REQUIRE You reside in North Queensland and will be available for a two-day residency in Atherton, Queensland to participate, dates to be negotiated. You will be supported to craft your skills, however, if you have some knowledge in any of the following, your support to others with less experience, will be appreciated.     

  • Voice empowerment
  • Narrative story development
  • Microphone technique

PROVIDED: Travel, accommodation and catering costs for the two-day residency, will be provided.  These recording sessions will happen between August 2025 and March 2026.

ANOTHER OPPORTUNITY: for a musician to be commissioned to write a theme song for the podcast, approximately 1 minute long.  Must be a person with a Lived Experience of mental health challenges and/or thoughts of suicide.
