NATIONAL ARTS AND HEALTH POLICY
Wednesday, 27th June, 2012.
Parliament House, Canberra - participate online via webcast hosted on PlaceStories.
At the Australian Government’s Standing Council on Health in November last year a decision was made to develop a national arts and health policy framework. This decision was supported by the Meeting of Cultural Ministers in March this year. The Arts and Health Foundation and its project partners the National Rural Health Alliance and Regional Arts Australia have secured the support of the Minister for the Arts, the Hon Simon Crean MP and the Minister for Health, the Hon Tanya Plibersek MP, to hold a National Arts and Health Policy Forum.
The objective of the Forum is to develop recommendations which will inform the national arts and health policy framework. It will also provide an important opportunity to strengthen links between members of the arts and health community and to cement relationships between the government agencies responsible for the development of the policy framework. This is your opportunity to help inform these working group members of the breadth and impact of arts and health practice and to help shape their ideas about what the policy framework should look like.
The webcast will feature an audio stream, twitter feed and digital showcase of arts and health stories from across the country. If you have not already done so, we ask that you join the Arts and Health Stories Community on PlaceStories (http://ps3beta.com/community/ArtsandHealth) to share your stories and be involved online. Through the contribution of stories and digital postcards from members of this online community the project partners will be able to map all that is being done across Australia in the arts and health sector and document all that needs to be done: creating an evidence base for the arts to be recognised in national health policy
CALL FOR EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST TO JOIN THE BOARDS OF THE ABC AND SBS
The Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, Senator Stephen Conroy, is calling for expressions of interest from individuals who have the necessary skills, qualifications and experience to contribute as non-executive directors on the boards of the ABC and SBS.
The appointment round will be conducted under the government’s merit-based appointments system, which has been used for all new appointments to the boards of the ABC and SBS since 2008.
“I look forward to hearing from a diverse range of men and women with the ability to contribute to the governance of our national broadcasters,” Senator Conroy said.
“The Government is particularly keen to receive applications from people who can represent Australians in regional areas, and from Australians from non-English speaking backgrounds and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.”
“There are currently two positions that will be filled on the SBS Board and one on the ABC Board,”

RESEARCH STUDY ON THE CREATIVE INDUSTRIES
You are invited to participate in a research study, under the auspices of the Cairns Institute at James Cook University. The study is designed to enable a greater understanding of the ‘creative industries’ in Far North Queensland by gathering evidence about the practices and views of those working within this sector. With this information and evidence, it will be possible for JCU to more strongly argue for the value and impact of the creative industries sector in this region.
What is the ‘creative industries’?
The ‘creative industries’ is a recent term that is essentially interchangeable with ‘arts and cultural sector’ or ‘arts and cultural industries’. For the purposes of this research, the term ‘creative industries’ is adopted in order to refer to the broad spectrum of arts, creative and cultural activities that exist for individual personal development, community benefit, education and training, cultural capacity building, commercial gain or any combination of these.
The survey can be located at the following link:

DRAMA TOTS – THE YOUNG COMPANY
STARTS FRIDAY 20 APRIL, registrations at 9:45am, with the class starting at 10am - 10:45am.
The Young Company
169 Bunda St CAIRNS CITY QLD 4870
Come along to The Young Company's weekly Drama Tots classes where our children's imaginations take a starring role. We pretend, play drama games, move to songs, make props, role-play and have lots and lots of fun all inside a real theatre studio!!
Each session the children, along with their parent or carer, explore new, imaginary worlds through selected nursery rhymes or children's books; one week they might be visiting the prince at the castle, the next digging for buried gold and the week after they could be jungle explorers. And although classes follow the same structure each week (so children very quickly feel comfortable and relaxed) the topic and theme is always different.
In our Drama Tots program we work with our imaginations and everyday objects to transform anything into everything, promoting confident, creative and flexible young minds. Perhaps most importantly of all, we know that when children play, they laugh, and that is why our classes are jam packed full of fun and exciting games!
Join in on the fun!
If you and your child would like to join a Drama Tots class please contact us today on 4041 4066 or email us

MANAGEMENT WORKSHOP - Up to 25 opportunities available
The Management Workshop is a one-stop shop for practical strategies to manage artists in the establishment phase of their career. Now in it's seventh year, the workshop has hosted some of Australia’s leading emerging managers. The Management Workshop provides a platform for strategic advice and ways to enhance opportunities for bands and solo artists forging pathways in the music industry.
In a creative industry where is no set path, the most effective way to learn is by sharing knowledge and seeking out those who have gone before. Providing access to an unrivalled list of industry experts from managers to publishers, lawyers, publicists, promoters and media representatives, the Management Workshop provides an opportunity for managers to come face to face with leaders in their field. Applications will be accepted from managers, self managed solo musicians or band members who are managing their own band. The Seed will provide and arrange transport, accommodation and meals for all successful applicants. Should you be successful all you need to do is get yourself to your closest major airport!
PUBLICISE IT - Grants of up to $5000 - Up to 3 opportunities available
This category exists in line with The Seed’s philosophy, to nurture artists throughout their careers. The campaign must be in support of a new Australian release (EP or Album only) or a campaign involving an Australian release and associated tour.
Applications will only be accepted from managers who have attended a Seed Management Workshop. Managers will be responsible for contracting the publicist and providing a letter of support that details their commitment to the upcoming campaign. Campaigns should begin after August 2012.
ART ON THE STREET - Grants of up to $5000 -Up to 2 opportunities available
