Sabahn Atima

Program Assistant (March 2021 – current)

Describing herself as an Altruistic Mystic; a multi-dimensional artistic voyager descended from the Yidinji Original Human Beings of Australia/Earth.  With a love for Mother Nature, vermiculture, and anything organic, Sabahn lives off-grid on her Yidinji ancestral lands in Far North Queensland.
After leaving school, Sabahn studied a Fashion Design and Technology Certificate at TAFE Cairns. She then moved to Melbourne, where she completed a Certificate III in Arts Administration at Koorie Heritage Trust (Melb.), followed by a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and Certificates III and IV in Aboriginal Cultural Arts at TAFE Cairns. Sabahn’s grandparents pioneered the Aboriginal cultural arts course in Cairns, so she wishes to use her talents for helping and healing herself, her kin, and her land.
Sabahn’s work history is extensive, including retail, administration, vocational education at the Koorie Heritage Trust, Office Manager at ILBIJERRI Theatre Company (Melb.), and still providing clerical support for the Petford Wellness charity. She is now exploring digital media and applying her creative skills in many visual arts forms, from carving, weaving, screenprinting, calligraphy to nature Arts and Crafts.
We are excited to have Sabahn join the Arts Nexus team and work from the Babinda Hub to support artists in finding outlets for their work and promoting it with great graphics and digital presence. She is proficient with Adobe Creative Cloud to produce high-resolution flyers with hyperlinks, edit photographs, and expand into designing websites.
