Celebrating creativity and the crocodile

September 5th - 26th, 2003
About the event

Crocodile Walking The Streets 2003 presents entertaining, colourful, witty and, at times challenging, art and design to the city's visitors and locals. It is about putting art in the public domain and bringing artists together with businesses and communities. Creative works are featured throughout the city in shop fronts and business spaces. New
artist features are also being looked at for this year's event.

Crocodile Walking The Streets takes place for three weeks in September, continuing its association with Festival Cairns. This is the second Walking The Streets festival for our region and it will again attract significant media attention. For artists this presents opportunities for publicity, potential sales and great entertainment.

Feedback from last year's Coconut Walking The Streets was excellent.
When it was all over lots of artists were already thinking about what they might do for this year.
2003 promises an even more entertaining event with this year's arts festival theme being CROCODILE.

About the 2003 theme

This year's Walking The Streets festival is a celebration of the crocodile - a powerful and amazing evolutionary survivor. Important to the cultures of Far Northern Australia, Papua New Guinea, India, Fiji,
Hong Kong and all the islands in between. The crocodile also benefits tourism in this region, providing a focus for thousands of visitors.

Aesthetically, ecologically and culturally 'crocodile' offers a wealth of possible interpretations.
